Jose Mourinho, the former Real Madrid manager, has started a new chapter in his coaching career after being named the new manager of SL Benfica earlier this week.
After being fired by Fenerbahce at the start of the season, the ‘Special One’ has returned to his roots at Estadio da Luz, taking over as manager.
Mourinho considers a Real Madrid move for Ferland Mendy.
According to rumors in Portugal (via Fichajes), the Portuguese manager has already made his first demand for the winter transfer window: the signing of Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy.
The Portuguese club’s goal is to strengthen a defence that has displayed deficiencies on the flanks in the early stages of the season.

As a result, Mourinho regards Ferland Mendy as the ideal player to bolster his team. The 30-year-old Frenchman would add experience, strength in one-on-one battles, and the ability to balance a backline that lacks defensively sound full-backs.
According to the report, Benfica are prepared to make a €10 million offer in January. Given that the player is not in Xabi Alonso’s plans, this figure may be convincing to Real Madrid.
The Frenchman is under contract until 2028, but his position at Real Madrid has dwindled as Alonso prefers Alvaro Carreras and Fran Garcia.
Injuries have also hampered Mendy’s consistency, with the player not appearing since April, prompting the Real Madrid board to listen to proposals.
There is currently no clear timeline for the 30-year-old’s comeback from injury, but Mourinho and Benfica regard him as a possible addition in January.
Mendy, for his part, is hesitant to leave Real Madrid, but considering his current playing scenario, it would be intriguing to see whether the ex-Lyon star examines the offer from Benfica.
