Ex-Arsenal Midfielder Pleads Not Guilty To Rape Charges

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has pleaded not guilty to multiple rape and sexual assault charges during a court appearance in London.

Partey, 32, who lived in Hertfordshire, denied five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault at Southwark Crown Court.

The Ghana international confirmed his name, date of birth and entered his not guilty pleas when appearing before the judge on Tuesday.

He is accused of raping two women and sexually assaulting a third between 2021 and 2022 while playing for Arsenal.

The midfielder’s contract at Arsenal expired in June 2024, and he subsequently signed for Spanish side Villarreal on a free transfer.

Allegations And Legal Proceedings

Prosecutors allege Partey committed the offences across multiple incidents, though his defence team strongly denies all claims and prepares for trial.

His court appearance came one day after Villarreal’s Champions League defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, where Partey was reportedly in attendance.

Partey had joined Arsenal in 2020 from Atletico Madrid but struggled with injuries before leaving north London when his deal expired.

Arsenal confirmed they could not comment, citing the ongoing legal process, after announcing his departure at the end of June, reports Hertsad.

The trial is expected to attract significant public attention given Partey’s Premier League history, international profile, and recent move to Spain.
