Rooney Names Man United Star Who Must Start Games Following Derby Defeat

Wayne Rooney reckons Ruben Amorim needs to look to one Manchester United player to lead the present team following their loss in the Manchester derby.

Phil Foden opened the scoring before Erling Haaland added two more as Amorim’s side lost 3-0 against Man City on Sunday.

The outcome exacerbates the Red Devils’ dismal start to the season. They have only won one of their last four Premier League games and also lost to Grimsby in the Carabao Cup.

Man United’s all-time top scorer, Rooney, saw a lack of leadership in the current squad and thinks Harry Maguire could provide assistance.

Rooney asked why Maguire hasn’t been included in the starting lineup in the league this season.

At the Etihad, Amorim had selected a back three consisting of Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Luke Shaw, with Maguire entering the game as a substitute in the 62nd minute.

“Harry should be starting,” Rooney said as quoted by the Daily Mail. “I heard Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink talking about it and how much England missed Harry Maguire at the Euros because he’s a leader.

“I’m sat there thinking how is he not playing with the three defenders who are playing.

“He should be in there, there’s a lack of leadership.”

Rooney questioned his old team’s derby passion, echoing former Man United captain Roy Keane.

United stumbled to a loss against their neighbors, and the game ended without a yellow card being given.
