Tottenham Confirm Signing Of Chelsea Target

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly announced the signing of Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig in a £51 million deal.

Spurs have been searching all summer for a talented attacking midfielder, and the signing of Simons, 22, is a huge coup for the north London team following their unsuccessful attempts to sign Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze.

Simons, a versatile attacker, has joined Tottenham for an initial £51.8 million plus add-ons.

Simons Happy To Join Tottenham

Simons told the club’s official website: “I’m really happy and can’t wait to get going. I’ve been dreaming of this for a long time.

“It’s a great club and when I met the Head Coach I knew straight away that this was the right place for me.

“I will bring flair to the team but also hard work and discipline. I want to do everything I can to win, for the team and also for the fans.”

The midfielder, who Leipzig have a sell-on clause for, was supposed to sign with Chelsea this summer, but Spurs were able to hijack the deal because the Blues failed to let go of players who weren’t subject to transfers.

Simons has signed a long-term contract and gives manager Thomas Frank a variety of choices. The Netherlands international can play well on the left wing or in number 10 and is just as good on the right.

The former Paris Saint-Germain player will wear the no.7 jersey for the north London outfit.
