Fernandes Tagged ‘Child’ As Man United Face ‘Serious Issues’

Bruno Fernandes has been labelled a ‘child’ after his missed penalty cost Manchester United a 1-1 draw against Fulham in the Premier League over the weekend,

With just one point from their first two games against Arsenal and Fulham, Ruben Amorim’s team have had a dismal start to the new season.

League Two Grimsby defeated United on penalties Wednesday night after the Red Devils rallied from a two-goal deficit, further humiliating their new campaign.

Despite Man Utd’s difficulties, Fernandes has frequently been the team’s bright spot, although his body language and complaints have drawn criticism.

The 30-year-old criticized referee Chris Kavanagh over his role for missing his penalty kick against Fulham over the weekend after the official bumped against the United captain as he moved back from setting up the ball on the penalty spot.

After the game, Fernandes said he was “upset” because the incident had interrupted his penalty-taking routine.

Walcott Branded Fernandes A Child

However, Theo Walcott, a former Arsenal winger, called the Red Devils midfielder a “child.”

Walcott said on It’s Called Soccer! as quoted by Football 365: “I look at it like this, it’s a child’s response. Because you’re still trying to teach their mind of how to deal with situations – we’re talking about a child.

“It was a natural child reaction which you would expect and you expect them to keep going on. You know what it’s like with you kids, something happens and they want to keep on going on and you’re trying to manage the situation.

“But he’s a professional athlete who’s the captain of Manchester United football club, he needs to be stronger and blank everything out because you’re playing for the biggest club in the world right now, and if that affects him, the referee bumping him, then they’ve got big, serious issues already.”
