Lamine Yamal launched the 2025/26 season in stunning style. The 18-year-old Barcelona wonderkid set up Raphinha for the opener against Mallorca and clinched his triumph on La Liga’s opening day with a sensational stoppage-time goal.
The football world was blown away by the La Masia prodigy, who has already established himself as the indisputable face of this Blaugrana team.
Steve McManaman lavished praise on Lamine
One of the most significant reactions to Lamine’s performance versus Mallorca came from Steve McManaman.
The Real Madrid and Liverpool icon poured praise on the Barcelona forward live on Premier Sports (h/t SPORT) shortly after the game ended on Saturday night.

“We already discussed him at the start of the match. We spoke about him last year. “He’s the star of La Liga, and what he did in the dying seconds of the game was absolutely brilliant,” McManaman remarked.
Continuing, he said, “He can slip inside onto his stronger left foot while also going down the right. He has everything right now, and he’ll improve.”
However, the former Liverpool and Real Madrid player cautioned Barça on how they should manage the winger in specific situations.
“I’ve said it before on several occasions: I hope Barça rest him a bit and don’t necessarily use him in games that are already won because his talent will infuriate the opposition,” says McManaman.
After warning that the Barcelona No. 10’s dribbling could incite rivals after matches had already been settled, the former England international reiterated his appreciation for the teenager, saying:
“What a player we’ve got here. It’s an amazing pleasure to come here and watch him perform.”
