Wayne Rooney states Liverpool would be “unstoppable” if they were able to complete a trade for Alexander Isak as Arne Slot seeks to win back-to-back Premier League titles.
The Reds were dominant en route to their title success under the Dutchman last year, and they’ve been aggressive in the transfer market to ensure they remain at the top of the tree. They’ve already smashed the British record by signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
Hugo Ekitike has also come in to lead the line after moving from Frankfurt for just shy of £80 million, but Liverpool is still interested in signing Isak, who has shown a desire to leave Newcastle.
The Magpies have dug their nails in, rejecting a deal of more than £100 million from Liverpool and insisting their star will not be sold. Isak is doing everything he can to force the transfer, claiming he has played his final game at St James’ Park. The controversy still has weeks to go, but Rooney maintains that if the Swede does make the move, it will be a terrifying proposition.

He told Match of the Day: “I already have Liverpool as favourites to win the title this year, but if Isak comes in, I believe they’ll be unstoppable.” The quality they have. I believe a key part was changing Trent because a lot of chances and goals came from that side and I think (Jeremie)Frimpong has got the attributes to go and fill that side.
Frimpong, like Wirtz, came from Leverkusen and now fills the vacuum left by Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Dutch full-back has been quite inventive, and Liverpool will be hoping he can be as productive in the final third as their former right-back.
