Ruben Amorim’s first season in charge will not be judged by a pre-season triumph over West Ham United during a tour of the United States, but there were plenty of things to take away from their game at Met Life Stadium, home of the New York Giants.

New signings. Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo were expected to fill those two roles this season, but in Mbuemo’s absence, Fernandes partnered Cunha in a more advanced capacity.
And he demonstrated his abilities, connecting up nicely with the Brazil international and providing Amorim with food for thought, especially as Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo worked well together at the base of midfield.
Mbeumo will be introduced to the squad in the following days and weeks, and it will be interesting to see what this means for Fernandes.
