Chelsea Set To Sign Teenage Star As Veiga Sale Nears Completion

Chelsea are reportedly set to go all out for Ajax defender, Jorrel Hato once the pending sale of Renato Veiga to Atletico Madrid completes.

The 19-year-old Dutch international has emerged as a top target for the Blues, who are actively revamping their defensive ranks under manager Enzo Maresca following their FIFA Club World Cup victory.

Veiga, a 21-year-old Portuguese defender, is eager for an opportunity out of Stamford Bridge for consistent playing time. He cost €14 million (£12.1 million or $16.4 million) to join Chelsea from Basel in 2024.

Negotiations have advanced significantly with Atletico, with Chelsea refusing to budge from a €40 million (£34.6 million/$46.7 million) valuation that would result in a sizable profit.

Veiga’s departure, along with the possible departures of Ben Chilwell and other players, has forced Chelsea to prioritize defensive reinforcements, and Hato is at the top of their list.

According to Team Talk, the Blues are now prepared to start club-to-club negotiations with Ajax and are prepared to make a big move to sign the teenager.

They will proceed with the deal following the conclusion of negotiations over the sale of Veiga.

Hato, who has so far made 111 professional appearances for Ajax, has also acknowledged Liverpool’s interest.

Hato, who can play either left or central defence, has made an impression for Ajax and demonstrated maturity above his years with his performances.

Chelsea hope to use money from recent sales to negotiate a deal closer to £50 million (€57.7 million or $67.7 million), while Ajax are demanding £60 million for the teenager.
