Barcelona prepares for the 2025/26 season, one player merits our undivided attention: Gavi. The 20-year-old midfielder has long been regarded as an important member of the squad, but he does not appear to be part of Hansi Flick’s starting lineup at the moment.
It’s not about his ability, which Gavi possesses in abundance, but the current squad is stacked with midfield alternatives, making it difficult for him to obtain consistent playing time.
Gavi did achieve a significant aim last season. After missing nearly a year due to a catastrophic injury, he returned to action in October. He showed some improvement in January, but another injury, a hit to the head in February, slowed him down once further. According To Barca universal.
Nonetheless, in the last stages of the season, Gavi found his stride. Flick was intrigued by his efforts and began to consider Gavi as someone capable of operating in more than one position.
Determined to make his mark.
Gavi has been working hard this summer. He is aware that he is not yet a member of the starting XI, which has increased his motivation.

He is focusing on regaining peak condition before his first La Liga game against Mallorca, as last season was all about recovering from injuries and adapting.
He took a less part and even had an excellent friendship with Flick. But this time, he’s aiming higher.
World Cup season
He is not the type of player who will accept sitting on the bench behind Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, or Dani Olmo. Gavi wants to prove that he deserves to play.
This season is particularly critical for his national team’s ambitions, as the World Cup approaches. Spain manager Luis de la Fuente still believes in him, but competition is fierce, particularly with players like Isco, Mikel Merino, Fabian Ruiz, and Alex Baena in the mix.
Gavi understands that in order to remain in the spotlight, he must maintain consistency and demonstrate talent from the start of the pre-season tour. If not, Barcelona may seek a summer sale following the 2025/26 season.
