Maresca Urges Chelsea To Rival Man United For Premier League Star

Chelsea head coach, Enzo Maresca has reportedly told the club’s hierarchy to rival Manchester United for the signing of Aston Villa goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez this summer.

Chelsea had previously tried to acquire a new goalkeeper this summer, but their bid to recruit Mike Maignan before the Club World Cup failed.

Although the French goalie was eager to leave AC Milan for Stamford Bridge, the club have since announced that their captain will not be departing this summer.

Despite having a patchy season in goal last year, Maresca continues to support current first-choice keeper Robert Sanchez.

With Martinez’s future at Aston Villa unknown, Chelsea may still want to increase their goalkeeping options this summer, according to recent sources.

The Argentine, who cost £17 million to sign from Arsenal in 2020, was clearly disappointed as he strolled around the stadium after the season’s final home game. Villa’s precarious financial status has raised the possibility that Martinez will be sold this summer.

According to Argentine journalist Christian Martin, Chelsea’s management is also interested in the 32-year-old, despite United being strongly linked to a deal for the World Cup winner.

“Chelsea wants Emiliano Martínez as their starting GK, and Enzo Maresca has asked,” Martin told DSports.

“Willy Caballero, who is part of the technical team, has also given the go-ahead.

“The player wants to stay in England, so for now it’s an option for Chelsea.”
