Arsenal Handed Major Alexander Isak Transfer Update As Newcastle United Make Decision

Arsenal have suffered a setback in their long-term pursuit of Alexander Isak. According to The Times, Newcastle United are prepared to make the Swedish striker the highest-paid player in the club’s history, in a bold move to discourage rival clubs.

Newcastle’s hierarchy is reportedly preparing to start discussions on a new deal that will pay the 25-year-old more than £150,000 per week, surpassing current top earners Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes, and Anthony Gordon.

The forward has three years left on his contract at St James’ Park and hasn’t showed any signals of wanting out.

However, rumors indicate that Newcastle is ‘worried’ about the likelihood of receiving an offer for its valuable asset.

Liverpool are strong contenders, having bought Florian Wirtz for a British record £116 million, pushing their summer expenditure total to £200 million.

Any deal Newcastle offers would fall short of the highest salaries at Anfield, given the club is still bound by the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

While Liverpool is not actively looking for a No.9, Arsenal is in desperate need of a striker, and if Isak signs, he will most likely become their top choice.

Arsenal’s interest in the Swedish striker began well before his £63 million transfer from Real Sociedad to Newcastle in 2022.

During the 2019/20 season at Sociedad, while Martin Odegaard was on loan from Real Madrid, the two developed a close friendship both on and off the pitch, with Isak subsequently referring to Odegaard as his ‘best buddy’ at the club.

Isak was the Premier League’s second-highest goalscorer in 2024/25. 23 goals brought his total in the division to 54 in 86 games since joining Eddie Howe’s squad in the summer of 2022.
