Rudiger appeared furious following the final whistle after an exchange with Pachuca’s Gustavo Cabral and reported the incident immediately.
He approached Brazilian referee Ramon Abatti Abel to raise the issue, prompting FIFA’s anti-racism protocol to be activated.
In the post-match press conference, Alonso confirmed Rudiger’s claim and assured full support from the club for their defender.
“Toni told us something happened, and if it did, it’s totally unacceptable. We support him fully,” Alonso told reporters.
He added that FIFA was now investigating the incident and that racism has no place in football under any circumstances.
Pachuca manager Jaime Lozano said he was unaware of the incident and hadn’t spoken to Cabral about the accusation yet, reports Sports NDTV.
Lozano stated, “You’re informing me right now. We didn’t hear anything in the dressing room, so I can’t confirm anything.”
He emphasized racism is indefensible and promised to speak with Cabral privately to understand what may have occurred.
FIFA has not issued an official statement, but further action is expected following a full investigation of the alleged abuse.
