National Team Manager Resigns Following Row With Barcelona Star

Poland head coach, Michal Probierz has reportedly resigned from his position amid row with Barcelona forward, Robert Lewandowski stating it as “for the good of the national team”.

His resignation follows a public altercation with Robert Lewandowski, during which he strips him of the captain’s armband.

The Barcelona star responded by saying he would not be playing for the national team any longer as long as Probierz was still in charge.

According to Barca Universal, Probierz announced his resignation on the Polish Football Association’s official X account.

“I have come to the conclusion that, in the current situation, the best decision for the good of the national team would be my resignation as head coach. Holding this position was the realisation of my professional dreams and the greatest honour of my life,” he said.

Continuing, he added: “I want to thank all my colleagues and the staff of the Polish Football Association. I could always count on you. Thank you for the trust of the president and the board of the Polish Football Association.”

The 52-year-old stripped Lewandowski of his captaincy after he chose not to play in Poland’s games during the current international break after an exhaustive season with Barcelona.

Following their conversation and agreement over his rest, the Blaugrana striker had blasted the coach, saying that Probierz had betrayed his confidence. Therefore, as long as Probierz was in control, the 36-year-old pledged not to play for Poland again.
