Manchester City completed a $150 million shopping binge ahead of the Club World Cup on Wednesday by announcing the signing of Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan.
The 26-year-old Reijnders joined City for an initial cost of 55 million euros ($63 million), becoming the second midfielder to join in the special June 1-10 transfer window intended to allow clubs in the 32-team Club World Cup to rearrange their rosters, following France player Rayan Cherki.
City paid Lyon $41 million for Cherki and $42 million for Algerian left-back Rayan Aït-Nouri from Wolverhampton.

After deciding not to pursue Florian Wirtz – the Germany playmaker is close to joining Liverpool, according to British media reports – City spent around the same amount on three players.
With this new splurge on top of an outlay of more than $200 million in the winter transfer window, City has already spent at least $350 million on players in 2025 to present manager Pep Guardiola with a side capable of recovering the Premier League from Liverpool.
Reijnders has just been voted Serie A’s best midfielder following a breakout season in which he scored 15 goals and added five assists across all competitions for Milan, which had a disappointing season and failed to qualify for Europe. According To Daily Mail.
He joined Milan from AZ Alkmaar in 2023 for a cost of approximately 20 million euros (then $22.4 million) and recently signed a contract extension until June 2030. That’s also the length of his contract with City.
City is releasing De Bruyne after a 10-year stay at the club, and Reijnders and Cherki will now join Rodri in an exciting midfield lineup.
Reijnders declared himself “ecstatic” to be joining City.
