Barcelona President Names Number One Target To Replace Lewandowski

With Robert Lewandowski ready to lead their line for a last year of his contract, Barcelona have reportedly postponed their search for a number nine until next season.

However, President Joan Laporta has already begun to consider Camp Nou’s post-Lewandowski future.

With 42 goals and three assists in 52 games, including some pivotal goals in Barca’s El Clasico match against Real Madrid, Lewandowski finished as the team’s top scorer last campaign.

But, it is not surprising that Barcelona are considering who will play through the middle following him as he turns 37 in August.

Erling Haaland was always considered the top target when Laporta took over as Barcelona’s president, but as he moved out of their price range, Lewandowski was added. Alexander Isak has recently been mentioned as the striker the Catalan giants are most interested in signing.

However, Julian Alvarez, a forward for Atletico Madrid, has been linked to Barcelona and several teams in recent weeks.

According to Football Espana, his representative has spoken with a number of elite clubs, but Barcelona were mentioned as the offer that would most likely entice him.

Alvarez joined Atletico Madrid last summer for €75 million (plus €15 million in variables), and by the halfway point of the current campaign, it was obvious he was the team’s standout player.

After seeing him four times in person, Cadena SER claims that Laporta has shifted his focus from praising Rafael Leao of AC Milan as a dream acquisition to raving about Alvarez.

Even though Atletico have consistently claimed that Alvarez has no intention of leaving, any move would take place next summer.
