Salah Reveals Saudi Arabia Transfer Talks

Mohamed Salah has reportedly revealed that he had talks with Saudi Arabian clubs before penning a new contract with Liverpool.

After entering the final 12 months of his contract with the Reds, Salah’s future was the focus of circulating rumors for the majority of the season.

Last month, the Egyptian signed a two-year contract that will bring his stay at Anfield to ten years, thereby reaffirming his dedication to the team.

However, the 32-year-old has disclosed that he discussed a possible transfer to the Middle East with Saudi Arabian officials, which may still be his next course of action.

“It was a good opportunity to me,” said Salah, speaking to Egyptian TV channel On Sport.

“If I hadn’t renewed with Liverpool it would have happened.

“My relations with SPL officials are very good, we talked a lot, and the negotiations were serious.

“The negotiations were long, I know the club’s policy (with offering contracts to players in their 30s), we reached a middle ground that made us all happy.”

Salah, who was the target of a rejected £150 million offer from Al-Ittihad of the Saudi Pro League in September 2023, said that the demand from Liverpool fans for him to stay with the Reds was a factor in the agreement of a new contract.

“Part of the pressure on the club came from the fans,” he said. “I know from the start that they wanted me to continue, and they played their role in all of this.”

Salah had a fantastic season, helping Liverpool overcome second-place Arsenal by 10 points to win their 20th league title.
