The new manager is totally committed to pursuing the Lille player, and the club is aware that there is a shortage of finances, so they will need to be strategic in their approach.
According to Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox, Gomes, who recently joined the England squad, may be a vital member.
The 24-year-old midfielder signed a five-year contract with Lille after leaving Manchester in 2020, but the French team is prepared for him to go in the summer. Gomes and foreign teams can start negotiating a pre-contract deal in January.
It gives the Red Devils the opportunity to finalize an agreement that will allow the midfield player to return to Old Trafford for nothing come summertime, reports Mirror.
Gomes acknowledged that it would be hard to say no to the emotional attachment when asked about the likelihood of a spectacular return to Old Trafford last month.
He said: “There’ll always be that sentimental soft spot, so of course it’d be difficult to say no.”
At the age of six, he joined Man United, and at the age of fourteen, he made his debut for the under-18 team.
At the age of 16 years and 263 days, Gomes made his top division debut during a victory against Crystal Palace in May 2017, becoming the club’s youngest player since Duncan Edwards in 1953.
