With a crucial clash against Saudi Arabia looming, Spain know they need a victory to strengthen their position in the group.
Yamal Set For Increased Role
One of the major talking points surrounding Spain’s start to the tournament has been the careful management of Yamal’s fitness.
The 18-year-old arrived at the World Cup after recovering from a hamstring injury, leading the coaching staff to limit his involvement in the opening match. The Barcelona winger came off the bench against Cape Verde and played just 19 minutes.
However, head coach Luis de la Fuente has indicated that Yamal is expected to feature for around 45 minutes against Saudi Arabia as Spain gradually build up his workload.
Barcelona Star Issues Rallying Cry
Despite disappointment over the opening result, Yamal’s confidence remains unshaken.
The teenager delivered a message of unity and optimism to supporters, insisting Spain will respond positively and display the style of football that has made them one of the tournament favourites, reports Barca Universal.
Speaking after the match, Yamal promised that Spain would “show who we are” against Saudi Arabia and urged fans to continue backing the team.
The winger also expressed his belief that Spain can still go deep into the competition, stressing that the squad remains fully united despite the disappointing start.
With Yamal expected to play a bigger role on Sunday, Spain will hope their rising superstar can help spark their World Cup campaign into life.
