Troost-Ekong wins penalty in Serie A debut for Udinese

William Troost-Ekong has revelled in his Udinese debut, lauding his team’s ‘great fighting spirit’ to secure a 2-2 draw against Parma on Sunday.

Troost-Ekong’s move to the Little Zebras from Bursaspor was announced last Friday and he was handed a starter’s shirt by manager Julio Velazquez two days later, turning out for the entire duration of the tie as his side came from two-goal behind to earn a share of the spoil.

The Super Eagles defender Ekong, who cost more than 3 million Euros from Turkish club Bursaspor, was brought down for a penalty that his new club Udinese converted.

The penalty was put away in the 65th minute as Udinese fought back from two goals down to get a result at Parma.

The former FK Haugesund and Gent defender however applauded his teammates’ fighting spirit after the draw.

“Happy to make my debut for Udinese tonight. Great fighting spirit from the boys to take home a point. We will build on this!

Udinese will host Sampdoria in their next game and Ekong is expected to make his home debut in the encounter.

Elsewhere, Adeleke Akinyemi also made his bow for struggling IK Start in Norway.

Akinyemi played for 84 minutes when they held hosts Stromsgodset to a vital 1-1 draw.

Akinyemi was snapped up by IK Start after his heroics at Latvian club FK Ventspils in the UEFA Europa League, where he banged seven goals.
