Several MLS clubs were also monitoring the former Borussia Dortmund centre-back before his unexpected decision.
However, formal negotiations never progressed as Süle ultimately decided to end his playing career at just 29 years old.
The defender recently revealed that fears over another serious knee injury convinced him retirement was the right choice.
Injuries and Mental Struggles Influenced Süle’s Decision
Süle admitted he feared suffering a third cruciate ligament injury during Dortmund’s match against TSG Hoffenheim in April.
The emotional scare reportedly left the defender in tears before medical examinations later confirmed no severe damage.
Despite receiving positive news, Süle explained that moment made him realise his football journey was over mentally, reports GOAL.
The former Bayern Munich star also spoke openly about ongoing struggles with injuries and fitness issues throughout recent seasons.
Dortmund had already decided against extending his contract beyond this summer, ending speculation surrounding his future.
Süle is now hoping to make one final appearance and reach 300 Bundesliga matches before officially saying goodbye to professional football.
