Sherra Wright, the ex-wife of late NBA player Lorenzen Wright, who pled guilty in 2019 to aiding her hooper husband’s murder… was refused parole at a hearing and must remain behind bars.
Sherra’s plea for release was unanimously denied by the Tennessee Board of Parole… less than 5 years into her 30-year jail sentence.
Sherra confesses to plotting the horrible murder of her 12-year NBA veteran spouse in 2019. Prosecutors allege that Wright hired someone (Billy Ray Turner) to assist her in the crime before luring Lorenzen to a deserted field under the pretense of meeting someone for money.
But it was all a lie, and Lorenzen was gunned down and left to die alone.
Sherra eventually pleaded guilty to murder facilitation and attempted first-degree murder facilitation. She received a three-decade term in exchange for her guilty plea.
Regarding Sherra’s request for parole after serving so little of her term, her lawyer stated that Wright was a model inmate on the inside and thus should be released.
Lorenzen’s mother, on the other hand, petitioned the board to deny the motion, stating that Sherra should serve the entire 30 years.
Today’s ruling does not guarantee she will serve another 25 years, but it does ensure she will not be released anytime soon.
“To have released this defendant after she has served less than five years of a 30-year sentence for murder conspiracy would have diminished respect for the law by declaring a policy of tolerance for violent criminal behavior,” said the D.A. in Shelby County, where the case was prosecuted, calling the decision “welcome news” for Lorenzen’s family and friends.
Wright will be in her 70s when she is released if she serves her entire term.
Sherra will not be eligible to return to the parole board until May 2027.
