Sir Jim Ratcliffe Learns Price For No.1 Sporting Director Target But Man Utd May Face Wait

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is anticipated to bring in a new sporting director when his agreement for a 25% share in Manchester United is finalized, albeit his top target will not be simple to get.

Manchester United will have to pay a high cost to gain the services of Dan Ashworth, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s main target for the position of sporting director.

Ashworth has previously held similar positions at West Brom, England, Brighton, and Newcastle. Ratcliffe has taken notice of his work and is close to finalizing a deal to purchase a 25% ownership in the Red Devils.

His top target to replace Murtough is thought to be Ashworth, who has been at Newcastle for less than two years. According to the Daily Mail, United may have to be patient to bring him in, with the Englishman having a 12-month notice period in his contract.

Ashworth is said to be happy with life at St James’ Park, with Newcastle confident of keeping him at the club. A formal offer from United could test the positions of both parties though, despite Newcastle rivalling the Red Devils for a European spot.

“He has built a strong foundation for the new owners at Newcastle. He’s competent, highly qualified and knows what he’s doing. He will work with his coach, recruitment team and other departments coherently and calmly,” Neville tweeted.

“I’ve known Sir Dave for a number of years, working across various different sports and he is without doubt the best in world sport at creating high-performance culture and turning that into winning,” Ashworth said.
