Riqui Puig Couldn’t Believe LA Galaxy Wanted Him

Riqui Puig, who recently joined the LA Galaxy, claims he struggled to believe the MLS team’s desire to acquire him from Barcelona.

Early in August, Puig made the move to the California club on a deal that stretches into 2025.

Despite missing the team’s two games since his signing was announced, the 23-year-old is expected to hit the ground running in the United States.

This weekend, Puig could earn his league debut against the Seattle Sounders.

What Did Puig Say About LA Galaxy?

The Spanish international claims he was surprised by the American team’s approach, saying at a press conference:

“I couldn’t imagine this club was reaching out to me… I couldn’t believe I was being called by the LA Galaxy.”

He continued:  “I like to take risks. It’s a new city for me, I think it’s a great opportunity.

“This is a league for young players. Trust me, in the coming years you’ll see more young players.”

When Is Puig Expected To Debut In The MLS?

Puig is scheduled to make his LA Galaxy debut against the Seattle Sounders on Saturday.

Due to the need to wait for the P1 Visa to be approved, the Barca academy graduate was unable to participate in the most recent games against Kansas City and Vancouver Whitecaps.

He might be selected to start this weekend’s LA Galaxy match in the No. 10 position, lined up in front of midfielders Mark Delgado and Gaston Brugman.
