Real Madrid Dealt Luka Modric Injury Blow Ahead Of El Clasico

Real Madrid have suffered an injury blow just two weeks before El Clasico as it has emerged that Luka Modric has returned from international duty with a hip injury.

With wins over Austria and Denmark, Modric helped Croatia reach the UEFA Nations League quarterfinals.

During the international break, the 37-year-old played the whole course of Croatia’s two UEFA Nations League matches, scoring the opening goal in Sunday’s 3-1 triumph over Austria.

Despite his age, he has put in great performances in the middle of the park and has been important for Carlo Ancelotti’s team this season.

However, the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has reportedly suffered a muscular injury at the top of his hip and will be out for a while.

It is a setback for Los Blancos, who have started the season undefeated in all competitions, winning all nine of their matches.

Modric has appeared in all nine of those games, scoring twice and assisting on two occasions.

He is expected to be out for 10 days as a result of the injury, missing Real Madrid’s La Liga matches against Osasuna and Getafe, as well as their two Champions League matches against Shakhtar Donetsk.

In positive news, the veteran is expected to be recovered for the big game against Barcelona in the middle of October, which will be a huge boost to the Los Blancos fans.

While one of the skilled Aurelian Tchouameni or Eduardo Camavinga may fill in, the latter has been struggling for fitness, while the former only came in the summer and is yet to properly integrate into the Los Blancos squad.

If everything goes according to plan, Modric will play in another El Clasico at the Bernabeu in a fortnight.
