Barcelona were eliminated 3-2 on aggregate following defeat at the Metropolitano, with tensions running high after controversial refereeing decisions across both legs of the quarter-final clash.
Raphinha, who was present despite not playing, was seen gesturing towards Atletico supporters after the match, appearing to suggest they would be knocked out in the semi-finals.
UEFA could hand multi-game suspension
The Brazilian winger also sparked controversy with his post-match comments, claiming the tie had been “robbed” and heavily criticising the standard of officiating.
He accused the referee of failing to punish Atletico players for repeated fouls and questioned whether there was bias against Barcelona progressing further in the competition.
UEFA are now reportedly reviewing his actions, with potential punishment ranging up to a three-match ban for breaching conduct rules and discrediting the competition.
A similar sanction was previously given to Neymar in 2019 after he criticised officials following Paris Saint-Germain’s elimination from the tournament, reports Football Espana.
Raphinha’s gestures towards fans could also be investigated, with past incidents involving players like Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham resulting in fines and disciplinary action.
Any ban would likely be served in next season’s Champions League campaign, adding further frustration for Barcelona after their early exit.
