Raphinha Hits Back At Spanish Press Over Barcelona Departure Comments

Raphinha has reportedly lashed out at the Spanish media amid speculation that he would leave FC Barcelona.

According to Goal, the Brazilian dispelled rumours in an interview with ESPN, claiming that speculations that he was unsure about his future at Barça were untrue.

“Ever since I arrived in Barcelona, there has been speculation about my departure from the club right from day one,” said Raphinha, addressing the Spanish media in no uncertain terms: “There’s a bloke out there who’s simply lying.”

The 29-year-old did not name this “bloke,” yet it is clear which report had him so worked up.

Early in May, Raphinha’s “existential doubts” were reportedly revealed during a recent “period of self-reflection,” according to the Barcelona-based newspaper Sport.

He had reportedly told the club about this and offered to stay, according to the newspaper. But the forward maintains that none of that actually occurred.

Raphinha Has Two Years Left On Barcelona Deal

There is no immediate need for extension agreements because Raphinha’s contract expires in 2028. This season, the Brazil international has been playing well. He has eight assists and 19 goals in 31 competitive games despite recurrent injury setbacks.

He returned to the team for the 2-1 victory over CA Osasuna after being sidelined since late March due to a thigh injury.

The former Leeds United forward may potentially make his comeback in Sunday’s Clásico against Real Madrid, where Barca may win the league title.
