United were eliminated from the Champions League in the group stages on Tuesday night. Erik ten Hag’s side were defeated 1-0 at home by Bayern Munich, dropping them to the bottom of a group that also included FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray.

The Red Devils picked up just four points from their six games, recording one win during that time. After finishing fourth out of four, it means there will be no European football for United after Christmas, with the club having even missed out on the Europa League.

United’s downturn has been blamed on a variety of factors, including poor recruitment. They have spent a lot of money on players who aren’t performing, such as Antony and Jadon Sancho.

Speaking on TNT Sport, club legend Scholes laid into the club’s transfer policy and picked out two stars he believes they should have spent £100million on in the summer. “I think there were probably a couple of big mistakes in the summer,” he began.
