Mbappe ‘Had Nightmares’ After PSG Won Champions League Without Him

Kylian Mbappe will have “had nightmares” about Paris Saint-Germain winning the Champions League without him and Ousmane Dembele winning the Ballon d’Or, according to France legend Marcel Desailly, who spoke to Goal.

Mbappe moved to Real Madrid in an attempt to win such honours, but he has now been told that he might endure a trophy drought in Spain for up to four years.

Mbappe would go on to spend seven fruitful years in the French capital after moving to Parc des Princes in the same summer of 2017 that Brazilian superstar Neymar broke transfer records with his €222 million (£198m) move from Barcelona.

With 256 goals in 308 games, he became PSG’s all-time top scorer and won 15 trophies with the team, including six Ligue 1 titles.

However, the 2018 World Cup winner is yet to be acknowledged as the world’s greatest player, and European triumph proved elusive.

Desailly Spoke About Mbappe’s Move To Real Madrid

Mbappe’s fellow countryman Desailly, the 1998 world champion – speaking exclusively to Goal said: “I think he has fulfilled his dream with Real Madrid.

“He probably had a couple of nightmares when you don’t sleep because moving to Madrid, suddenly the club that you are a fan of win the Champions League and your best friend is winning the Ballon d’Or!

“But I think he’s intelligent enough to stay with the passion of the game.

“The start has been fabulous since he left Paris Saint-Germain – 44 goals, all competitions included, was just amazing. And in Madrid, the year after, he’s also been exceptional, but he didn’t win!”
