Mauricio Pochettino ‘Tells Friends He Is Interested In Managing Chelsea’

Mauricio Pochettino have reportedly told his friends that he is interested in the Chelsea job if it becomes available in the future.

The Argentine has been unemployed since leaving his position at Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last season as a result of the club’s last-16 defeat from the Champions League.

Pochettino ultimately lost out to Erik ten Hag for the Manchester United job, which happened while he was still at Parc des Princes.

More recently, the former Tottenham Hotspur manager has been connected with succeeding Gareth Southgate as England manager if the current incumbent decides to step down.

However, Football Insider reports that the 50-year-old is keeping a close eye on any developments at Stamford Bridge.

Graham Potter was only appointed as Thomas Tuchel’s replacement in September, despite the Englishman having a nine-match undefeated streak at the start of his tenure.

However, four defeats followed in five games, three of which were in the Premier League, extending their winless streak in the top tier to five games.

Chelsea are currently eighth in the table, eight points behind the top four, despite having a game in hand.

Despite defeats to Brighton & Hove Albion, Arsenal, and Newcastle United, it is still claimed that Potter’s position at Chelsea is secure.

Todd Boehly, Chelsea’s co-owner, is said to be happy to allow the 47-year-old time to stamp his own mark on the club, regardless of whether Chelsea achieves Champions League status next season.

According to the report, Pochettino has informed friends that if Boehly and other club executives change their minds, he would be interested in replacing Potter.

Potter will have the forthcoming holidays to try to turn Chelsea’s fortunes round, with their next league games against Bournemouth and Nottingham.
