Liverpool Pushing To Sign Inter Milan Star

Liverpool is leading a three-club hunt to recruit Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries this summer, according to strong Italian media sources, with the pieces falling into place for the Reds to finally solve their right-back problems.

The 2025/26 season appears unlikely to go down in Liverpool history unless there is a dramatic turnaround and something miraculous occurs during the following few months. Arne Slot’s side has seemed a shell of the team that romped to Premier League title victory last season, with a string of poor performances hurting their chances of trophy success.

Surprisingly, the Reds are still alive in two cup tournaments and may still make this season a triumph if they defeat Manchester City in the FA Cup and Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

However, given what we’ve seen thus far, that appears to be a tough order.

Aside from a decline in standards across the board, the Reds’ one major weakness this season has been at right-back. Jeremie Frimpong has had a hit-and-miss debut season at Anfield, while Conor Bradley has struggled to overcome injury concerns.

And, with few choices available to Arne Slot, the Reds have been obliged to play this season’s sole real player of constant quality, Dominik Szoboszlai, at right-back – a decision that has perplexed many and even irritated his international manager, who couldn’t resist a sneaky dig at Slot.

Recognizing that need, sporting director Richard Hughes looks to be focusing on a deal for Dumfries, according to L’Interista, who thinks the Reds would have no trouble convincing him with a sizable financial offer, making the transfer ‘simple’ to make.

Liverpool face competition for the Dumfries contract.

Despite Liverpool’s interest, they are not the only side attributed with taking a liking to the player. Manchester United and Manchester City have also been credited with a prospective move for the 69-times capped Netherlands international, who has been with the Nerazzurri since the summer of 2021.

Liverpool, on the other hand, are considered the favourites to sign him, and our transfer correspondent, Graeme Bailey, revealed earlier this year that Liverpool had also inquired about the possibility of signing Dumfries during the January transfer window, only to learn that the Serie A leaders had no interest in meeting their offer to sign him on loan with a permanent option.

However, all indicators lead to a summer transfer, with Hughes determining that the club cannot afford to ignore their right-back issues any longer, as well as the necessity to get Szoboszlai back to playing regularly in his more favoured and crucial offensive midfield role.
