Liverpool Hope To Beat Manchester United To The Signing Of Nico Schlotterbeck This Summer

Liverpool and Manchester United are two of several Premier League clubs anticipated to improve their back lines during the summer transfer window by buying one or two central defenders.

According to Caught Offside, the two English rivals are ready to compete for the signature of Borussia Dortmund player Nico Schlotterbeck, who is interested in joining one of the clubs after the current season concludes.

Dortmund and the player were in talks about renewing his contract, but according to the source, the player has halted all conversations with his club since he is still interested in relocating to England.

Schlotterbeck’s contract with Signal Iduna Park expires in June 2027, thus he will be eligible for a reduction this year. Transfermarkt valued the centre at £48 million, which could be enough to secure his services.

Liverpool  set to be the favourites for Schlotterbeck.

Between Liverpool and Manchester United, the Reds are in greater need of a central defender due to a lack of depth in their backline, and two of their key players have questionable futures.

Ibrahima Konate has yet to renew his contract, which expires at the conclusion of the current season, whereas Virgil van Dijk is entering the final year of his agreement at Anfield and may not be handed another extension due to his form.

Nico Schlotterbeck would prefer a regular spot at his next club, therefore he may be enticed by the prospect at Liverpool rather than United, which has decent players and ample depth in their back four.

The German international is an excellent ball player who is recognized for effectively building up from the back, but his tackles and positioning stand out, making him a worthy successor to Van Dijk on Merseyside.

Schlotterbeck, 28, has a respectable amount of experience and is in the prime of his career, so all signs point to him being a smart buy for Liverpool, who have every reason to believe they will outbid Manchester United for his services.
