Lamine Yamal is facing a race against time to recover from injury ahead of the 2026 World Cup with Spain.
The teenage winger suffered a hamstring problem while playing for Barcelona during their victory over Celta Vigo in April.
Since then, he has remained sidelined while continuing rehabilitation ahead of the summer tournament, reports Daily Mail.
Spain’s medical staff are reportedly maintaining regular communication with Barcelona as they carefully monitor the progress of one of Europe’s brightest young talents before the competition begins.
Reports suggest Yamal will likely miss Spain’s opening World Cup fixtures against Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia.
However, there remains optimism he could return in time for the group-stage meeting against Uruguay later this month.
The 18-year-old remains central to Spain’s ambitions after his outstanding performances during their successful UEFA Euro 2024 campaign, where he emerged as one of the tournament’s standout stars under manager Luis de la Fuente.
Spain Facing More Selection Concerns
Spain could also be without several experienced players after provisional squad decisions created major talking points ahead of the World Cup tournament.
Former captain Alvaro Morata and veteran defender Dani Carvajal were both omitted from the initial 55-man squad announced before the competition.

Morata has struggled for international minutes this season, while Carvajal endured another injury-hit campaign with Real Madrid.
Former vice-captain Jesus Navas was also excluded from the provisional squad list.
Despite Yamal’s injury setback, Spain remain hopeful the young winger can still play an important role later during the tournament this summer.
