Jamie Carragher Says Ruben Amorim Man United Tenure Should End

Jamie Carragher believes Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United reign has been a “disaster” and insists both sides should “shake hands and move on.”

The former Liverpool defender highlighted Amorim’s struggles since arriving from Sporting CP, with United collecting just 34 points from 33 league games.

Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag last November, but optimism has quickly faded as results continue to disappoint despite heavy investment during the summer, reports ESPN.

Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports, stressed the Portuguese coach’s tactics were always a mismatch for Manchester United’s traditions and long-standing playing identity.

He pointed out that Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 system has been widely questioned, though he doesn’t believe formation alone explains United’s failures.

Carragher Points Fingers at United Hierarchy

Instead, Carragher directed blame toward United’s hierarchy, including CEO Omar Berrada and part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, for hiring Amorim despite clear risks.

He compared Amorim’s rigid tactical philosophy to Jurgen Klopp’s pressing or Pep Guardiola’s short passing, describing it as non-negotiable for the manager.

Despite £200 million spent on new players this summer, including Senne Lammens on deadline day, United’s performances have shown little progress.

Carragher suggested a different manager could transition the squad into a back four and push for European qualification with the same players.

He concluded by admitting sympathy for Amorim but insisted the poor results make his exit inevitable, urging United to end things quickly.
