Jack Butland Set For Man United Medical Ahead Of Loan Move

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Jack Butland is reportedly set to undergo a medical on Thursday ahead of a loan move to Manchester United.

After Newcastle recalled Martin Dubravka from his season-long loan at Old Trafford, United acted quickly to sign a backup goalkeeper to David De Gea, leaving only Tom Heaton and Neil Bishop as options.

And now, according to The Athletic, Butland will arrive for medicals before joining Old Trafford until the end of the season in a six-month loan move.

As per reports, he will be on loan until the end of the season, and it is unclear whether Manchester United will consider signing him permanently this summer.

Butland is yet to play for Palace in the 2022-23 season, despite returning to the bench on Boxing Day after missing the start of the season with a fractured finger.

The goalkeeper was in the squad against Fulham and Bournemouth on December 26 and 31, respectively, but he was not on the bench against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.

Butland’s contract at Selhurst Park expires at the end of June, so he will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The nine-time England international began his professional career with Birmingham City, where he made 46 appearances before joining Stoke City in 2013.

The goalkeeper joined Palace in 2020, but he has only made 17 appearances for the Eagles in all competitions.

Butland will compete with Heaton for the number two spot at Old Trafford for the rest of the season, with the goalkeeper potentially being included in the squad against Charlton Athletic in the EFL Cup on Tuesday if a deal is completed in the next few days.
