‘I Still Don’t Know’— Barcelona Forward Unclear On International Future Following World Cup Defeat

The previous night was especially difficult for FC Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski, as his Polish national team lost their World Cup play-off match against Sweden, missing out on the opportunity to compete in the next edition of the largest event in world football.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the striker addressed the media following the devastating loss. He was unsure whether this could have been his final World Cup with the Polish side, responding to the question: “I still don’t know.”

Lewandowski also shared a post with the song “It’s time to say goodbye”, and when asked if it was an indication that his time with the national team was coming to an end, he replied:

“What will I do?” I do not know. I need to think about it thoroughly and reflect. I can’t make a statement right now. I will return to the club. I still have few matches to play. “This post is not a statement.”

“It’s difficult to say anything following a game like that. I’m not sure if the words I find would express how we feel. Football can be really harsh. You can play well, come from behind twice, and still finish empty-handed. For a fan, that is the worst sensation. It aches since we were so close. The third goal was the hardest part. If there had been more time, our prospects would have improved with each minute. We thought we could overcome them, either in the second half or in overtime.”

This must have been a heartbreaking night for Robert Lewandowski, as it would have been his final World Cup. Hopefully, this defeat will motivate him to play with even greater zeal for Barcelona to finish the season on a high note.
