Former Goalkeeper Regan Gibbs Found Dead  At Age 25 After Suspected Murder

Former soccer star Regan Gibbs is dead, according to the University of Kansas. According to state police, Her husband has been detained on suspicion of murder.

Kansas soccer is in grief following the death of former student athlete Regan Gibbs.

The University of Kansas announced on social media on May 18 that the aspiring physician’s assistant passed away earlier this week. She was 25 years old at the time of her death.

“Our soccer program is devastated to learn of Regan’s untimely death,” said head coach Mark Francis in a statement. “She was a fantastic teammate and young woman who impacted many people throughout her time at Kansas. Regan will be remembered for her accomplishments on and off the field. During this difficult time, we send our condolences to her family, friends, and teammates.”

Travis Goff, Director of Athletes, added, “We are heartbroken to learn of the loss of former Kansas University student-athlete Regan Gibbs. As we all mourn Regan’s death, our KU family sends our love, support, and prayers to her family, friends, and former teammates.”

On May 16, officers from the Lawrence Police Department were dispatched to Gibbs’ apartment in Kansas. They found the former soccer player, who was declared dead at the scene.

Police said Gibbs’ death was likely the outcome of domestic abuse, but they wouldn’t reveal how she died.

Who was Regan Gibbs?

Gibbs was a goalkeeper for the Kansas Jayhawks soccer team from 2015 to 2018. According to the university’s athletics department website, she was a native of Naches, Washington, and a member of two NCAA tournament teams during her time at Kansas.

According to the Kansas City Star, Her husband, Chad Joseph Marek, appeared in Douglas County District Court on Tuesday for a bond hearing. He is still being held on a $1 million bail.
