Football Journalist Claims Jose Mourinho To Real Madrid Has Been ‘Agreed For Months’

Jose Mourinho is reportedly edging closer to a sensational return to Real Madrid, with journalist Guillem Balague claiming the move has been “agreed for months.”

According to Balague, Madrid president Florentino Perez began laying the groundwork for Mourinho’s return shortly after Xabi Alonso was dismissed earlier this year.

Speaking on the GMS Market Madness podcast, Balague said Perez contacted agent Jorge Mendes in January to discuss both Mourinho and Enzo Maresca before eventually moving forward with the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss.

“Things have been put in place for Jose Mourinho to become the next manager of Real Madrid,” Balague explained.

“Florentino Perez feels that he needs another alpha male to sort out that immature changing room.”

Madrid’s difficult season has intensified pressure at the Bernabeu after they lost the La Liga title to rivals Barcelona and crashed out of the UEFA Champions League at the quarter-final stage against Paris Saint-Germain.

Interim boss Alvaro Arbeloa has struggled to steady the situation, while recent controversies involving Kylian Mbappe, Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni have added to the unrest around the squad.

Mbappe recently sparked fresh headlines after claiming he had been told he was “fourth-choice” in Madrid’s attack following their win over Real Oviedo, reports Give Me Sports.
