FA Charge Man United Star Following Red Card

FA Charge Man United Star Following Red Card

Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire has reportedly been charged by the Football Association (FA) after being sent off against Bournemouth.

In Man United’s last match before the international break on March 20, Maguire was given a straight red card for taking down Evanilson in the area and conceding a penalty.

Man Utd played the final 12 minutes plus stoppage time at the Vitality Stadium with one fewer player after the central defender protested his innocence to referee Stuart Atwell.

“The referee’s call of penalty and red card for Maguire for the denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity (DOGSO) was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed to be a holding offence with no attempt to challenge for the ball,” the Premier League match centre said in a statement.

Maguire Charged For Improper Manner

According to The Evening Standard, Maguire has now been charged by the FA after it was alleged that he “acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards the fourth official follwing his dismissal”.

Maguire has until April 2 to address the charge. It’s unclear if the defender will be subject to a lengthy suspension or a fine if the claim is verified.

The England international will serve his one-match suspension against Leeds after the international break as Man United look to resume their winning ways following a 2-2 draw with the Cherries.

Maguire will currently be eligible to play against Chelsea on April 18 at Stamford Bridge in a pivotal top-four match.
