Cristiano Ronaldo To Split From Agent Jorge Mendes

Cristiano Ronaldo To Split From Agent Jorge Mendes

Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly set to part ways with his agent Jorge Mendes following his move to Al-Nassr.

The 37-year-old Portugual forward was officially unveiled as an Al Nassr player on Tuesday, following his arrival in Saudi Arabia and signing a £175 million-a-year contract.

It comes after a tense few weeks in which Ronaldo accused United of ‘betraying’ him and specifically aimed manager Erik ten Hag, who had dropped him earlier in the season, in a TalkTV interview.

According to the Portuguese news outlet Publico, Mendes raised objections to Ronaldo giving the interview and felt sure that any hopes of finding the star at another top club in Europe had faded away after that.

Ronaldo’s two-decade relationship with Mendes had been deteriorating for some time, and his personal manager Ricky Regufe negotiated his transfer to Al-Nassr.

According to Publico, Ronaldo expected offers from elite European clubs if he performed well at the World Cup in Qatar, despite the acrimonious nature of his departure from Old Trafford.

Mendes had a different opinion, knowing that only Al-Nassr could meet Ronaldo’s salary demands. Indeed, he had already begun the process by gauging the Saudi club’s interest.

This theory was confirmed when Ronaldo flopped at the World Cup, being dropped by Portugal coach Fernando Santos for the knockout rounds.

During a press conference to unveil him as an Al-Nassr player on Tuesday, Ronaldo claimed he was offered many opportunities in Europe, Brazil, Australia, USA and Portugal, but he had given his word to the Saudi Arabian club.

While Ronaldo is expected to leave Mendes’ Gestifute agency, he could make his Al-Nassr debut against Al-Tai on Thursday.
