Courtois hits back at Mourinho over Chelsea’s ‘wonderful life’ dig

Thibaut Courtois has hit back at Jose Mourinho’s suggestion that Chelsea have a big advantage in the Premier League title race due to their lack of European football this season.

The Manchester United boss has claimed that Chelsea and Liverpool have a ‘wonderful life’ due to their fixture schedule and believes the two teams have an edge when it comes to preparing for Premier League games.

But Courtois insists Chelsea’s players would rather be playing in Europe and believes the Premier League leaders do not have an advantage with their current schedule.

‘The players don’t want to relax,’ said Courtois.

‘Everybody wants to play in Europe and if you’re in the rhythm of playing a game every three or four days, sometimes you can play better, even though it’s harder at the end of the season.

‘We have a lot of people on the bench who want to play and maybe haven’t had as many minutes as they deserve, and if we had European football they would have played more minutes.

‘The other year, when we were champions, we had European football so I don’t think it makes a big difference.’
