In recent days, the Newcastle United midfielder’s agent has reportedly given Arsenal the opportunity to recruit Sandro Tonali.
When queried about this by talkSPORT, Magpies CEO David Hopkinson did not refute the reports, only stating that he did not know.
This came after the Athletic reported that Tonali’s agent offered the player to the Gunners, and while it was too late for anything to happen during the January transfer window, it may indicate that it will be a story to watch out for in the summer.
Hopkinson, on the other hand, stated unequivocally that Tonali is content at Newcastle and that the Italy international is extremely valuable to the club.
Newcastle director speaks out on Sandro Tonali Arsenal transfer tale.
When asked if the Tonali stories were accurate, Hopkinson replied, “I don’t know. That is our answer.
“Eddie (Howe) got it right; he doesn’t know and I don’t know. Here’s what I know: he’s a top player who is currently under contract here.

“He’s not the only player we had that other teams would want, so I believe if we can establish a situation where people aren’t trying to muck around and create havoc in the marketplace in order to get rid of our players, we’ll have a serious problem.
“Sandro has been a wonderful player, a smile’s on every day I see him, I believe he’s happy here and we’re certainly happy with him.”
Could Arsenal lure Sandro Tonali away from Newcastle?
Tonali has shone for Newcastle, helping them qualify for the Champions League last season, but he would undoubtedly be tempted by a large club like Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta’s vision appears to be taking off, with the north Londoners topping the Premier League standings, qualifying for the Champions League, and reaching the Carabao Cup final this season.
Tonali might fit in well with Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi in midfield, but Newcastle will undoubtedly do everything possible to keep the 25-year-old.
As Hopkinson stated, he is a superstar player for NUFC, and they will not want a repetition of last summer’s story, which saw Alexander Isak leave St James’ Park for a lucrative move to Liverpool.
