Chelsea Reach Agreement With Brighton Defender Marc Cucurella

Chelsea have reached agreement on personal terms with Marc Cucurella ahead of a possible £50m move Stamford Bridge this summer as per reports.

Brighton have rejected Manchester City’s several bids for Cucurella, and the Premier League champions are unwilling to meet Brighton’s £50 million asking price.

Chelsea have now moved to hinder City’s pursuit of Cucurella, stating that they are willing to meet Brighton’s asking price.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea have accomplished a major milestone by reaching a personal agreement with the 24-year-old.

Cucurella is set to join Chelsea today, with talks continuing today to close the deal, which would be a big victory for the Blues given that the 24-year-old was widely touted to join City.

Cucurella was named Brighton’s Player of the Year last season after a remarkable debut season after joining the club from Getafe in a £15m deal last summer.

The Spanish international is mostly a left-back, so he will compete with Ben Chilwell, but he can also play on the left side of a back three, giving Thomas Tuchel defensive choices.

Will Chelsea Sign Gabriel Slonina?

Cucurella may not be the only new addition likely to arrive at Stamford Bridge; according to The Sun, Chelsea are close to signing highly-regarded goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina from Chicago Fire for £12m.

The 18-year-old finished his physical on Monday, according to the newspaper, and will sign a six-year contract with the Blues before being returned on loan to Chicago Fire to continue his development.

Slonina has emerged as one of the most exciting young stars in American football, starting all 23 MLS games this season and maintaining 10 clean sheets.

The American is expected to become Chelsea’s third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly. And if the Blues can pull off a £62m double swoop that also includes Cucurella, Tuchel will have his fourth new signing wrapped up in no time.
