Chelsea Overtake Liverpool In Transfer Race For Sensational Midfielder

Liverpool are on the verge of losing out on one of their transfer targets due to their interest in Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, Florian Wirtz.

After winning the Premier League, the Reds are aiming to infuse their squad with more creativity.

Manager Arne Slot wants to bolster his team with more creative players after the club lost Trent Alexander-Arnold this summer.

Wirtz, who is set to become the club’s record signing, is currently in negotiations to join Liverpool from Leverkusen.

However, their concentration on Wirtz may cause them to miss out on RB Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons, another target.

According to Bild as reported by Caught Offside, Chelsea have surpassed Liverpool as the leading team to sign Simons.

Several elite European clubs have expressed interest in Simons, who finished the 2024–25 Bundesliga season with 11 goals and 8 assists.

Although Liverpool were initially interested in signing Simons, they eventually turned their attention to Leverkusen’s Wirtz, who is rumored to be joining the Reds in a record-breaking £126 million move.

Chelsea are in a strong position to take advantage of the chance to bring Simons to Stamford Bridge while Liverpool focus on completing the Wirtz deal.

Simons’ versatility and creativity make him an enticing proposition for Chelsea and they would love to sign him over their rivals Liverpool this summer.

Having qualified for the Champions League next season, manager Enzo Maresca wants to make forward recruits to add depth and quality to his squad.

Real Madrid star Rodrygo, who is unhappy at Santiago Bernabeu, is another player the Blues are interested in, in addition to Simons.
