Chelsea Appoint Christopher Vivell As New Technical Director

Chelsea have confirmed that Christopher Vivell has been appointed as the club’s new technical director.

Chelsea’s new owners have been eager to put together a team to aid Graham Potter’s quest to improve the first-team squad since Thomas Tuchel’s departure in September.

While other roles have been filled in recent months, the search for a technical director has been delayed, in part because Todd Boehly and his partner co-owners want to secure their top target.

Vivell has long been reported to be on Chelsea’s radar, having garnered plaudits for his influence at Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig.

Vivell departs the latter for Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea stating that he was responsible for recruiting and scouting across all age groups” and “coordinated the overall strategy for squad building and recruitment across Red Bull’s wider football group.”

The 36-year-old has taken on a new challenge in West London, citing the opportunity to contribute to “the most exciting project” in football as his motivation.

“Chelsea are building the most exciting project in global football and I’m extremely proud to be joining the club.” Vivell said on the club’s official website. There is so much potential for the club to continue to succeed, develop and grow.

“Under the new ownership, Graham Potter and the broader sporting team, there is a clear and sustainable philosophy underpinned by performance analysis, data and innovation, and I am looking forward to playing a part in that.”

While Vivell arrives at a time when Chelsea sit eight points below the Champions League spots in the Premier League table, his own attention will be on the January transfer window.
