Burnley Boss Vincent Kompany Dissapointed With Premier League Refreeing This Season

Referee Darren England gave Kompany a red card during Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Chelsea for arguing against a penalty call that resulted in the dismissal of defender Lorenz Assignon.

Out of all Premier League teams, Burnley has the most players that have been sent off  in 30 games this season.

According to BBC Sport, Kompany stated that he has “no problems with being fined” and that he is “not shying away” from providing officials with feedback.

“I’ve told the referees themselves that the quality of refereeing this season hasn’t been good enough,” he stated.

And while acknowledging that it’s not easy for them, I said that in a constructive manner. “There is intense scrutiny. The officials are under more pressure than they have ever been.

“The addition of VAR and more opinions and more officials doesn’t make it easy for them to do their jobs.” Four points from safety, Burnley is ranked second from the bottom of the table.

Just before halftime, Assignon was given a second yellow card for fouling Mykhailo Mudryk; Kompany’s response saw him sent to the stands.

In their two comeback victories over Chelsea, Burnley was led by Dara O’Shea, who equalized in the 81st minute to salvage a point.

Prior to this season, Kompany claimed that he believed officials were constantly attempting to apply “common sense.”

“You make a mistake and we all have a laugh about it and usually the traditional view is that it all evens itself out over the course of a season,” he stated.

“I haven’t felt this way this year. It makes no real difference where we are in the league. I only care that it is correct.”
