Benzema: I’m Not Angry At Mbappe For Deciding To Join PSG Over Real Madrid

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema says he wanted Kylian Mbappe to join Los Blancos but is not upset that his France colleague signed a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

Mbappe had been anticipated to leave Paris Saint-Germain for Real Madrid when his contract expired this summer, but the 23-year-old chose to stay at PSG for another three years, upsetting some La Liga figures.

Many people were shocked by the decision, since many had believed Mbappe’s impending transfer to Real Madrid was a given conclusion. The decision was accompanied by a “U-turn” tone, implying a last-minute change of heart.

Benzema, who plays with Mbappe at the international level, will now concentrate on the forthcoming Champions League final, and will be without his France teammate at least next season.

What Did Benzema Have To Say About Mbappe?

“It was a long year for him, he had to decide,” Benzema told Canal+, adding that he has no bad feelings against Mbappe for declining the chance to join him in Spain.

“It’s his decision; I wish him well, however, as I previously stated, I would have liked him to play for Real Madrid.”

“I prefer not to talk,” he told Movistar+. I’m not angry; all I can say is that I’m focused on the Champions League final [on Saturday against Liverpool], which is more important than anything else.”

He did, however, make what appeared to be a minor dig at Mbappe’s value to the team. “This is not the time to discuss these minor details,” Benzema joked.

Will Mbappe Ever Join Real Madrid?

Mbappe’s choice may have enraged Madrid officials and fans, but the attacker has refused to rule out returning to the club.

“Never over, never over,” he replied last week when asked if his goal of going to the Spanish capital was ended.

Mbappe said that he declined the highly-anticipated move to Madrid due to “sentimental” reasons and that he preferred to remain in his native country.
