Benteke scores fastest ever goal in World Cup history

Christian Benteke scored the fastest ever goal in World Cup history last nightas he found the net after just six seconds in Belgium’s qualifier away to Gibraltar.

As reported by ESPN, the Crystal Palace forward was alert to open the scoring in rapid fashion for Roberto Martinez’s side, with the strike also going down as the fastest ever international goal for Belgium. Benteke was in prolific form tonight and went on to score a hat-trick.

The former Liverpool target man replaced Romelu Lukaku in the starting line- up for tonight’s game and the decision proved to be an inspired one from Martinez, with the powerful striker proving too difficult for the Gibraltar defence to deal with.

Belgium have enjoyed an excellent start to their World Cup qualifying campaign, winning their first two fixtures before quickly establishing a lead against Gibraltar.

Benteke has been impressive since joining Palace from Liverpool in the summer and has scored three goals in five Premier League games this campaign.
