Suggestions that David Beckham’s marriage to Victoria Beckham is based around the concept of ‘brand Beckham’ has been rejected by the ex-midfielder.
Married in 1999, the couple have four children and have often been subject to press speculation given his Manchester United, Real Madrid, and England exploits whilst Victoria shot to fame as part of the pop group Spice Girls.
“People have talked about ‘do we stay together because it’s a brand?’ Of coursenot,” he told BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs.
“We stay together because we love each other. We stay together because we have four amazing children.”
“We’re a strong family unit. We’ve got strong parents, we were brought up with the right values.
“Of course you make mistakes over the years. We all know marriage is difficult at times, and it’s about working through it.”
On the show, Beckham’s picks included Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney’s duet The Girl Is Mine and Something About The Way You Look Tonight by Sir Elton John.
