Ballon D’Or 2022: Kylian Mbappe Booed At Ceremony In Paris

Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe was booed by fans as he arrived at the Ballon d’Or ceremony on Monday evening.

The 23-year-old has recently made headlines after speculations surfaced claiming that he has asked to leave the Ligue 1 champions in January.

Mbappe appeared to put an end to concerns about his future at the Parc de Princes when he signed a new three-year contract with the club in May until the summer of 2025.

However, the France international is alleged to feel ‘betrayed’ by PSG after promises were broken following his contract renewal, and his relationship with the club is said to be ‘completely broken.’

Mbappe finished sixth in the 2022 Ballon d’Or rankings after scoring 39 goals and assisting 26 times in 46 games for PSG across all competitions last season, with France teammate and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema winning the award for the first time.

Mbappe was booed when he came onto the red carpet with his father before the ceremony began at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, with several local supporters apparently displeased with the rumours circulating about his future at PSG.

The France international has disputed claims that he has wanted to leave the club during the winter transfer window, insisting that he is happy in the French capital.

Speaking to RMC Sport after PSG’s 1-0 win over Marseille on Sunday, Mbappe said: “I have not asked to leave Paris Saint-Germain in January. I’m not furious with the club, it’s not true.”

Mbappe was one of many players to congratulate Benzema on his achievement. “Congratulations brother,” he wrote on Instagram after the ceremony. “Deserved!”
